Ahhhhh I’m so excited to blog this one! Funnily enough, despite being based in Birmingham and being a lover of all things colourful and alternative, I’ve never actually shot at Birmingham’s iconic Custard Factory in Digbeth before. Bal and Neil are getting wed next month at the stunning Manor By The Lake, so recently we set about thinking of somewhere to shoot their pre wedding photos. Since their wedding venue has absolutely gorgeous gardens and we’ll be capturing those on the big day, I was thrilled when Bal and Neil opted to do something a bit different and have their shoot in Digbeth.
One of the things I love about Digbeth is that it’s always changing, so there are always new things to see. It feels like there’s an explosion of colour around every corner, and just when you think you’ve seen everything it pulls something else out of the bag. I think this entire shoot took place over about 3 streets, there’s just that much to work with!
I love that amidst all the colour there was also some black and white geometry to work with, and of course Birmingham’s canals – we even got the cutest little row of ducklings swimming by in the background. To be honest though, I could have shot these two anywhere and the photos would have been beautiful – there was such an ease about them, and lots of laughter. It’s such a nice reminder of why I do this job when I get to spend time with people so clearly happy together. I can tell the wedding is going to be stylish and full of love, bring on next month!
