My mantra is very much that I want my clients to feel like a mate shot their wedding. Well, in this case it was actually true! Laura and Alex held their wedding at Upton Barn and Walled Gardens earlier this year and it was absolutely epic. I’ve known these guys for many years now, in fact I used to live with Laura. Their love story is the cutest – friends for years and years and then love finally blossomed when Laura moved down to Bristol.
A relaxed morning
Laura and Alex opted to get ready at the nearby Upton Lakes Lodges and have a relaxed morning before the wedding. The lodges are just a couple of minutes away from the wedding venue and are the perfect place to chill out with the wedding party and get ready. Laura looked absolutely amazing in her Justin Alexander wedding dress, which paired perfectly with her Rachel Simpson shoes. Once everyone was ready, Laura’s dad arrived looking cool as a cucumber and carrying two large G&Ts. The perfect way to start your wedding day!
Outdoor wedding at Upton Barn
The wedding itself was outside in the glorious (and highly unusual) sunshine. Outdoor weddings in the UK can be a bit unpredictable but there was no danger of needing a plan B. The temperatures soared, the drinks flowed, and everyone looked super cool in their shades. Alex had the bright idea of grabbing some wind-up fans the day before the wedding, which proved to be quite a hit with anyone within range (including me!).
The weather did bring out the wildlife though and we had to laugh when we all had to dodge a massive bee halfway through the ceremony. I’d like to congratulate myself on not screaming when it landed on my chest. I really liked how individual these guys made their wedding. The couple had the Jurassic Park theme playing while they signed the register (yes really, and it was AWESOME). One of their readings, given by Laura’s brother, was a dramatic rendition of “We Go Together” from Grease, which was delivered perfectly.
After the wedding ceremony, the vibe was very much “eat, drink and be merry”. Everyone was loving the weather, there was an awesome magician (prompting Laura to do her best Usain Bolt impression after one of the tricks), and everyone really enjoyed the garden setting. Dinner was served in the Stable Barn where guests were also treated to boozy favours in the form of homemade blackberry vodka. Yum!
The evening was played out by The Shoo Flies (starting with a Hall and Oates cover for the first dance), and once the sun went down the dance floor came alive. the party carried on into the night and some of the guests may or may not have jumped in the fountain to cool down…
Here are a few of my faves from this awesome day. If you’re thinking of having your wedding at Upton Barn, or you just fancy photos that feel like your mate took them, drop me a line!
