Venue feature: Weddings at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens
So you’re getting married! Yasssss! But where to start with finding a venue? Well if you’re in the Birmingham area, you will definitely want to consider having your wedding at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and Glasshouses. I’ve decided to write some features on some of my favourite Birmingham and Midlands wedding venues, so let’s start with the Botanical Gardens.
The gardens are nestled away in Edgbaston, just outside of the city centre, and they’re GORGEOUS. It’s a beautiful piece of history, there are tons of amazing plants to look at, and it’s got two huge banqueting suites as well as a small intimate ceremony room, so it’ll suit any size of wedding. Oh and did I mention there are peacocks just casually roaming around?
Why have your wedding at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens?
Whatever your wedding style, there will be a way to blend it perfectly with the gardens. It’s such a versatile venue – from opulent banquets to small gatherings, from traditional to totally alternative, it’s got you covered. Here are a few reasons to consider getting married at the Botanical gardens:
1. It’s gorgeous
I don’t think I’ve said it enough. This place is STUNNING. All year round there are beautiful plants, from all over the world. There are loads of little structures and bits and bobs to find, and it looks different every time I go there. It even smells amazing, especially down in the herb garden.
2. You’re not limited to just one room
You can hire the gardens and everyone can have a really good wander around. After the gardens are closed for the day, you can have them to yourselves, how cool is that? Even during opening hours, you’ll have your dedicated spaces which are really beautiful, but your guests can have a look around too.
3. You’re supporting a charity
Not only are the gardens lovely, they’re also a labour of love. The Birmingham Botanical Gardens are actually an educational charity and have been a philanthropic endeavour since the 1800s. How cool is that? I love that even in a big city like Birmingham, just 1.5 miles away from the centre is this amazing little oasis for everyone to enjoy.
4. There’s plenty of indoor space for photos
Even if it rains, the glasshouses offer stunning opportunities for photos and for you and your guests to enjoy looking at the plants. And the best part is, they’re kept at a nice tropical temperature! So even if the Great British weather decides to do it’s thing, you’ll be warm and dry and still able to enjoy all the pretty things all year round.
Did I mention the peacocks? Seriously though, who doesn’t want peacocks at their wedding?
Not getting married at the gardens?
Why not consider having your engagement shoot at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens instead? The gardens are really supportive of photographers and couples wanting to make use of the setting for some pre wedding photos. It’s one of my favourite places to shoot! Evening if you’re not having your wedding at the gardens, you could still involve it in the planning of your big day.
Not only are the gardens amazing, they’re also really well situated in terms of getting there. If you’re attending a wedding at the gardens or planning your own, you won’t need to worry too much about parking. There’s a decent sized car park with 120 spaces (in the winter months it’s sometimes reduced to make space for installations so do check before you go), and parking is free for 12 hours. Remember to register your reg when you arrive!
The car park can get a bit busy during visitor opening hours but if you’re coming from the city centre you can also get the 22, 23 and 24 buses which drop off pretty much right outside. There’s also a fair bit of pay and display parking on the streets locally.
If you’re having your wedding at the Birmingham Botanical gardens and fancy having me along to capture it, or if you just want to have a chat about me shooting your wedding elsewhere, come and say hello!
